Aloe and Cal’s story is finally finished!

Aloe and Cal’s story is finally finished!

After almost three years, I have finally finished writing Aloe and Cal! If I were to release it now, you would have the entire story and all of its choices. It is fully functional, from beginning to end, complete with branching paths.

Here are some quick notes that I took if you want more of an insider look:

Day project started: July 13, 2015

Amount of time writing script: 2853 hours (118 straight days!)

Number of choices: 2965 (Each of these choices having unique dialogue or leading to different events taking place)

Number of food/drink referenced: 446

Number of characters (including the player): 8

Number of in-game days written: 274

Those are some large numbers aren’t they? It’s crazy to me that I was actually able to do all of this! Now, what’s left for me to do?

The first and most important thing to me is that I need to draw more. I want to add more art so that my readers can easily connect to my characters. After that is taken care of, I will work hard on the nuts and bolts of Aloe and Cal. Things like spelling errors, awkward sentences, and the UI will be tweaked as needed.

For those of you who have been waiting for updates on Aloe and Cal, I thank you. I hope to be able to release it soon. Right now, I’m estimating a release of Winter 2018. It may release sooner, it may release later, but I want you to know that I am continually working hard on creating the best visual novel I can.

I leave you with my most recent drawing I did of Aloe and Cal. Please enjoy it and look forward to seeing more in the future!

Working into the new year!

Hello all, have you been eating well?

I hope that you've been having a wonderful new year so far.

Aloe and Cal has been progressing steadily as always. It's taking longer than I expected, but it's still enjoyable to work on which is what is most important to me. I suppose that's the best part of making something by yourself! No deadlines!

Here's a fun little screenshot from Aloe and Cal that you can enjoy:

Aloe can be kind of pompous can't he? He's still a nice guy underneath it all though!

Always feel free to send me a message on Twitter if you'd like to chat!

Aloe and Cal - Animation

For the first time in my life I made a little animation!

I wanted to take my mind off writing for a bit so I decided to try my hand at animating. It was very fun and I hope to do more! Sure it may look rudimentary to some, but I am proud of myself as I do not have much artistic experience!

The animation is linked below.

Joypolis - Sweet chocolate cake

A fun food review!

joypolis sweet chocolate cake sonic

On my vacation to Japan one of the places I had to go to was Joypolis in Odaiba. I think of it as a sort of mecca for Sonic the Hedgehog fans. The various attractions and games they had were fun, but I was really there to buy (and try to win) merchandise.

The thing I wanted to get my mitts on the most was the sweet chocolate cake. I've seen pictures of it on the Internet and was always curious how it would taste.

I can't remember the price, but I believe it was roughly 1200 yen.

After carefully removing the wrapping paper, I was greeted with the box with the text "Rare Chocolate Cake" on it. I wonder what makes it rare exactly. I know that rare cheesecake in Japan are cheesecakes that do not require baking, but the look, texture, and taste of this one tells me it was baked.

choco cake

Here's the cake! It's probably not the prettiest picture huh? It looks much better in person I promise. Honestly though, it looks like any kind of run of the mill chocolate cake you'd see just about anywhere. The little dimple in the center is a chocolate chip.

So I've gone over the looks, how does it taste?

Well, if you've had any type of Japanese (or any Asian style cake) it tastes similar to that. The scent of chocolate is decently strong and it has a very light sweetness that is to my preference. The chocolate chip that studs the top and makes it way towards the center also adds an extra oomph of chocolate flavor.

The texture of the cake is dense and when you place it in your mouth you get a rather thick mouth feel to it. In my opinion, I think it would taste best chilled.. It would give the cake an almost creamy feel to it.

Overall, I'm satisfied with it. Honestly, the packaging already got me as a Sonic fan so even if it tasted bad I'd still like it. However, if this cake was being sold by itself without a video game character on it I probably would not buy it, especially at the price it was being sold.

Stay tuned for more food stuffs!

Of course, Aloe and Cal is still being worked on. :)

The vacation update!

Good afternoon everybody!

I know that updates have been scarce on the website/Twitter/Facebook the last couple weeks, but that was due to me being on vacation! My vacation from work is roughly a month long so I decided to take a trip to Japan! It was an incredible experience! I ate a lot of good food, played in plenty of game centers, and saw many gorgeous sites!

Work on Aloe and Cal will become steady once again. I did a lot of thinking about it during the long plane ride so I am eager to put my ideas into words and drawings.

Please say hello to me on Twitter if you ever feel up to it! Enjoy one of the photos I took at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa!

It's been a while since I've written a post hasn't it?

I hope that you have been well!

Progress on Aloe and Cal remains steady, but my pace will slow down slightly due to a vacation coming up.

Thank you for all of you out there who are interested in this visual novel. Feel free to contact me via Twitter or Facebook!

Have you been eating well?

Aloe and Cal's development has been steady, but I have been taking more breaks than usual due to my primary job.

Writer's block can get to anyone! Even with an outline of how I want the story to proceed getting to those points can be difficult. Crafting distinct, but not outlandish characters is something I hope to achieve.

In other news, I'm doing what I can to hit social media to get the word out there about Aloe and Cal! Food plays a huge role in the story so of course, I gotta write about food sometimes!

Please enjoy a picture I took of a lobster roll I had a while ago! As delicious as the lobster was, the bread is what seals the deal for me! :)
